After
last week’s poor performance, Bluehouse fought back with a tight win over
Great Wakering. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat…they never
really got going thanks to some tidy bowling by Andy Flint and Jon Wing.
Wing (34 –4) was particularly effective, swinging the ball prodigiously. The
only sizable knock from Wakering was C. Brandon’s 47; he batted well with
the tail to give the visitors a fighting chance.
In reply,
Bluehouse looked to be cruising to an easy win with the score at 86 – 0.
Andy Lynch smashed 56 and Simon Cooper 29, but then a couple of injudicious
shots let the visitors back in. Wakering began to apply pressure to
Bluehouse’s uncertain middle order, in particular Dave Howe (47-6) bowled
brilliantly as panic set in and Bluehouse crumbled. Up stepped Geoff Cox,
clearly unable to understand why all of his senior colleagues were making
such a meal of things, to smash the previously unplayable Howe for 14 off 5
balls and win the game! |
