A vital toss was lost, so Bluehouse were invited to bat on a slow damp
wicket that put everything in favour of the bowlers. A solid start was
needed, Simon Cooper (11) and Duncan Baldwin (7) digging in to see off the
new ball despite the metronomic accuracy of D. Firth (11 – 7 – 24 – 0).
After 30 overs Bluehouse were 67 – 1, and with the talented Nigel Pegg (91)
starting to get going, Bluehouse looked to push the accelerator peddle.
Brian Fayers (41), joined Pegg in the 33rd over and the two
blitzed the Chignal attack to all parts of the ground, the pair putting on
73 in 7 overs!!
An aggressive cameo from Warwick Everest (29*) put the icing on the cake for
the visitors, leaving the by now demoralised home side reeling in amazement
at the ferocity of the Bluehouse onslaught. At tea it rained and the game
was abandoned; but Bluehouse can take heart from this impressive display
with the bat. A proud Brian Fayers walking off after his aggressive knock,
and the class of Nigel Pegg were highlights – Bluehouse still have talented
players in the club and can surely make a good impression in Division 2 this
season. |
