Injury hit Bluehouse suffered yet more bad
luck when they travelled to Ingatestone on Saturday. The Wickford battlers
did well in the field against some very aggressive Ingatestone batting,
considering that most of the regular attack was either absent or injured.
Bluehouse hung onto nine catches, including a couple of spectacular top draw
efforts, but were unlucky when all rounder Simon Cooper was injured half way
through the Ingatestone innings. Warwick Everest was the most successful
visiting bowler with four wickets at the cost of 74, but Andy Flint also
bowled well only conceding 33 runs from his twelve overs.
Ingatestone duly passed 250, but with
scores of 252-9, 272-7, 330-4, 274-7, 302-9, and 250-7 in their last six
matches, Bluehouse could be well pleased with their efforts in the field.
With Cooper on his way to hospital,
Bluehouse opened with Baldwin and Herridge. Unfortunately rain during the
interval had spiced up the wicket and the fiery Pudney (9-1-26-3) proved
almost unplayable as he removed 3 top order wickets in short order.
Intermittent showers continued to slow the outfield and Bluehouse were
effectively chasing 300+ as well hit shots failed to reach the boundary.
Bluehouse sportingly completed a game that they could never hope to win, a
grateful Ingatestone collecting 25 points to keep their championship hopes
alive. |
