After three straight defeats in a
row Bluehouse played bottom of the league side Ekco Monarchs. With the sun shining
once again it was a day to bat first. We won the toss and elected to bat but
due to an accident entering Wickford some players were delayed I
decided to open with myself and R. Lynch with no real runs to mention
between these batsmen it was worth mentioning the unfortunate incident that
left Ekco's captain needing to leave the field after being struck on the leg.
Shortly after things returned to normal with
the scoreboard on 30-3 after 10 overs but with J. Cook and C. Gentry at the
crease things got a lot better for the Blues. Firstly C. Gentry hit a
fantastic (61) including 5 sixes and 6 fours in partnership with J. Cook
(89) who showed great composure and some fine shots to end just 11 short of
what would have been a well deserved ton. This fine partnership of 107 runs
in just 16 overs had revived the Bluehouse innings. After hard hitting
Gentry was removed S. Lynch (25) came to the crease and with some great
running between the wickets and a couple of lusty blows another 50
partnership was recorded with J. Cook this time in only 8 overs. The one
other batsmen worthy of a mention was J. McGarry with a solid (19) not out
to see Bluehouse reach there best total of the year with 231-8 on the board.
It was always going to be hard for Ekco fielding in this heat and being
reduced to 10 men early on but they stuck at their task with some good
bowling from the openers Cowell (9-1-32-3) and Frencham (12-1-36-2) and some
excellent catches they where happy with their efforts.
With a good score on the board
Bluehouse felt they just needed a couple of early wickets J. Nevill
(12-0-49-2) was the man to get the break through dismissing opener Winn for
just (12) and shortly after getting Hope (1) LBW. Things got a little bit
harder after this with Ekco's batsmen starting to find the boundary and a
solid partnership had formed between Jeffries (57) and Farmer (80). The
Blues needed something to happen and for the second time in two weeks it did
a top edge straight into the nose of Farmer meaning he could not continue.
After just a
few overs more Jeffries was clean bowled by me (11-0-22-2) leaving just the
tail to get through with an excellent throw from R. Lynch and in the good hands
of
N. Poole the next wicket was a run out. N. Poole (3-0-18-2) then polished of
the rest of the Ekco batsmen leaving them all out for 203.
The Blues had gained a well
deserved win on the day with some excellent efforts in the field by all!!
The game was played in excellent spirit and a really enjoyable game to take
part in, apart from the unfortunate accidents.
Well done everyone!!!! |
