After winning only the third
toss of the season the Blues elected to bat on what seemed to be a good
wicket. Ekco only had nine men and with this being a must win game for the
3's we needed a good start and boy did we get one Dik Lynch and Dale
Gutteridge sharing a 71 run partnership in just 11 overs. Glen Jennings then
joined Dale at the crease and added another 74 run partnership in just 8
overs by this time Dale had well passed his fifty sending the Ekco bowlers
to all parts of the boundary. With the score on 146-2 in just 20 overs Dale
was joined by Stuart Lynch who supported Dale well through his first ever
century for the club. Then through his 150 with the score rattling along
Stuart was dismissed for a well deserved 37 this time a 3rd XI record 3rd
wicket partnership of 136 was recorded taking the Bluehouse total on to
281-3 with an amazing 6 overs to go. Kelvin Hines joined, yes you guessed it,
Dale at the crease not satisfied with his first century he was now eyeing a
double, Kelvin not wanting to miss out on the fun smashed 37 in the final
overs but the day belonged to DALE GUTTERIDGE for his amazing 216 not out.
The Blues finished on 344-3 a club record!
After lunch we took to the
field still in disbelief at what we had just witnessed but Ekco's opening
batsmen got off to a great start in reply, Del Freeman made the breakthrough
removing both openers with Tony Gregory bowling at pace proving to much for
the Ekco batsmen. Good support came from Jason McGarry, Nicky Poole & Sandy Sandhu
which
ensured a great win for the Blues with Stuart Lynch picking up the final
wicket with his very first delivery Derek Freeman Snr taking a really good
low catch at the end.
Although the day belongs to
Dale Gutteridge for his fine display of batting everyone contributed to this
win and deserved their place in the Bluehouse records for this game.
Thanks to Ekco for their
hospitality especially captain Matt Scott who overcame problems earlier on
in the day to ensure the game was played. |
