Rayne won the toss and elected
to bat on another hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. Good early spells from
J. McGarry (12-3-55-1) & J. Nevill (12-2-55-0) had restricted Rayne to 48-1
off the first 16 overs. Then Rayne batsmen D. Bull hit a very quick fire 53
to up Rayne's run rate, Bluehouse continued to work hard in the field taking
wickets at regular intervals with D. Freeman taking 4-48. Rayne batted well
finishing on a defendable total of 223 with M. Bicknell top scoring with 72.
A special mention for R. Zimmer who took a full blooded shot straight in the
chest who showed great courage in rejoining his team mates after resting for
only a few overs.
Bluehouse needing 224 to win felt quietly confident going into bat on a good
wicket but after a slow start and some poor running at times, the run rate
increased to a run a ball. Rayne's opening bowler A. Trice (12-5-17-0) was
the cause with an excellent 12 over spell in the heat. R. E. Hunt top scored
for the Blues with a stubborn 32 and credit goes to all the remaining
Bluehouse batsmen who gave up their wickets trying to up the tempo. M. Falco
was the pick of the Rayne bowlers taking 5-39 also well supported by M.
Bicknell who finished with 4-27.
Rayne in the end deserved
their win, but I can't help feeling we lost this one rather than Rayne
winning it. Our thanks go to Rayne for being excellent hosts and good
sports, we look forward to gaining our revenge next year.
With next weeks game at
home to Galleywood III's Bluehouse need to improve on their running between
the wickets if they are going to survive in division 9. |
