After losing the toss yet
again we were asked to field on what was the hottest Saturday this year!!
Things started well enough with T. Gregory removing Rettendon opener C. Hunt
for just the one run. Bluehouse struggled from here on in with what can only
be described as the poorest fielding display of the season and the Rettendon
batsmen took their chances with D. Thomas finishing on an unbeaten 110 well
supported by I. Cole with 48. Rettendon finished on 317-6 including a total
of 73 extras!! With a
mountain to climb the blues set about the task of securing the 5 batting
points which they achieved thanks to some lusty hitting from several of the
team, top scorers where T. Gregory & S. Lynch both with 37 a piece but with
the last wicket partnership needing 9 runs and both Rettendon openers back
bowling it seemed that we might have to settle for just the 4 batting points
until young J. Farley found the boundary twice in the same over leaving just
1 more run to get D. A. Freeman (batting in just the one pad) cooley opened
the face of his bat and used the pace of Sudeep to obtain a well deserved
single down to third man.
