Willow Herbs won the toss and
elected to bat on another hot and sunny Saturday afternoon, with a side
packed with bowlers it was not long before the Blues got an early break
through with a catch. T. Wildes taking an absolute blinder off the fast pace
bowling of T. Gregory (12-0-47-1) on debut for the 3's who had beaten the
bat on a number of occasions. With the opening bowlers needing a rest after
restricting Willow Herbs to 48 after 16 overs a partnership was forming
between Willows batmen Fitzer (37) and Morgan (68) and the Blues needed a
breakthrough up stepped K. Benson (11-2-40-3) removing both Fitzer and
Morgan. T. Gregory should have had a couple of more wickets at the end but
the catches went down leaving Willow Herbs on 217-7.
In reply Bluehouse started
slowly just behind the required run rate, with some tight bowling from the
Willows opening bowlers. Bluehouse found it hard to find the boundaries. R.
Lynch (23) tried to up the rate but unfortunately skied one to the keeper
then J. McGarry (24) who had batted well got trapped LBW. T. Wildes (16)
showed good determination in front of some fast bowling to stay at the
crease but needed somebody to stay with him, out come T. Gregory and with
the Blues in trouble on 75-5 T. Gregory (32) wasted no time in despatching
the Willow Herb bowler to all parts of the field with 2 sixes and 3 fours
managing to gain the Blues 1 batting point. Bluehouse ended on a
disappointing 130 all out.
All that said it was a good
day, we tried our best and our thanks go to Willow Herbs for their kind
hospitality and good spirit throughout the day. |
