With
probably our strongest batting line up of the season so far, a procession of
lost wickets and numerous dropped chances flattered the score at 64 for 8
after only 23 overs. A dubious lbw dismissed wicket number 9 ten overs
later on 88 and only young James Farley left to come in. He then put his
senior team mates to shame scoring 17 in a partnership of 54 (Fourth team 10th
Wkt. best partnership) with Benny Benson 42 not out to take Bluehouse to a
defendable total of 142. Opening bowler T. Gregory soon got into the
Hornchurch Batsmen taking 4 wickets supported by James Farley who also got a
couple. Hornchurch were reduced to 41 for 6 but like our innings they had
saved their best until last. The change bowlers did not penetrate
sufficiently and first Sullivan and Makin put on 35, Makin then put on a
further 59 with King before being caught on 48 with the score at 135 for 8.
With 3 overs to spare King scored the final runs to secure a narrow win for
Hornchurch. |
